Energized Cup Seal

The ECup-Seal, short for Energized Cup Seal, is a spring-energized U-cup style sealing solution engineered for superior performance in extreme applications. Available in various configurations for Rod, Piston, Face, and Rotary setups, this advanced seal uses a metal spring to energize the outer thermoplastic jacket. This design allows it to adapt dynamically to pressure changes, ensuring consistent and reliable sealing performance over time.

Energized Cup Seals are critical in industries where conventional elastomeric seals cannot withstand temperature extremes, chemical aggression, or mechanical wear. ECup-Seals are widely used in demanding applications such as valves, actuators, pumps, cryogenic vessels, compressors, and oilfield equipment. Their robust design makes them suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature environments, meeting rigorous standards including NORSOK M710, ISO 15848-1 for low fugitive emissions, and API6A PSL 3-4.

Among the standout features of the ECup-Seal are its resilience, low friction, and excellent extrusion resistance. The seal operates across a broad temperature range from -196°C to +250°C and handles pressures up to 15,000 psi. The continuous energizing force from the internal spring maintains optimal contact with mating surfaces, while the thermoplastic jacket ensures low leakage and long operational life without shelf-life limitations.

Material selection plays a key role in the seal’s performance. ECup-Seals are primarily made from high-grade PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) with specialized fillers including glass, carbon, graphite, and minerals to enhance creep resistance, wear properties, and chemical compatibility. Other materials such as PEEK and RGD elastomers are available for high-temperature, cryogenic, or aggressive media applications. FDA-certified and NORSOK-compliant options are also offered.

In addition to standard models, CAAST supports custom-designed ECup-Seals for non-conventional uses, especially in the Oil & Gas industry. These include angular-sealing profiles, alternative energizer types, and configurations optimized for rotary or soft mating surfaces. Backed by a dedicated technical service team, CAAST provides tailored sealing solutions to meet even the most specialized industrial challenges.
